Independence Day of India holds a significant place in our democracy. Celebrated every year since 15 August 1947, on this day the constitution of the country came into the effect, marking the democratic system of governance.

History of Independence Day

Independence Day in India is celebrated annually on 15th August in respect and remembrance to the Independence of India when after more than 200 years of British rule, India finally won back its freedom on 15th August 1947.

Celebration on Independence Day

This day is observed as a national holiday in India to show respect for all the freedom fighters who gave their lives by shedding their blood to make India independent by fighting with the British.

On the eve of Independence Day, the President of India addresses the nation by delivering “Address to the Nation”. And on the next day on the 15th of August, the current Prime Minister hosts the Indian Flag at Red Fort, Delhi. The Prime Minister in his speech highlights the important events of the past year & plans for the coming year. He pays tribute to the leaders who lost their lives during the Indian Independence Movement. The ceremony is followed by the national anthem “Jana Gana Mana”, The Indian Armed Forces and Parliamentary forces continue the event by their march past.
